Win a copy of Wild Prairie Hearts

It's been another busy week with Scott in Brazil while I hold down the fort at home. The kids have been working hard at school and I've stayed busy by judging entries for a writing contest, reading through gallies for two of my books coming out this summer, and writing

I've just received my author copies of Wild Prairie Hearts! The book is scheduled to hit the shelves in a couple of weeks, so if you don't win a copy you should be able to find it at your local bookstore.

This month, I'll be giving away FIVE copies of the book. If you're signed up for my newsletter, you'll be automatically entered. (You can easily sign up on my blog at the top) A comment left between now and midnight on Monday (PST) gives you another chance to win. So leave a comment below, letting me know what you love about historicals (I'd really like to know!) and that you'd like to win a copy.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Lisa

  1. Greetings! Hope all is well with you and your family. I enjoy reading historical books because learning about past societies, people,
events, etc. interests me. Also, I believe we can learn from the past. This can be for the best or worst! Your book would be quite fun to read. Please enter me in your delightful drawing.
Many thanks and take care, Cindi

  2. Lisa after reading your newsletter about the cooler weather. Australia too is in autumn and the cooler weather. Infact it turn quite chilly.
I love historical books. I love the period and the ones I love best are set in the west. The prairies, the oregon trail and even lately about Texas. I love reading about how the people lived back then. I Love the books with a story mixed with fact or mentioning some factual event that happened or just telling us how they lived back then. It was a harder life in many ways but so much more simple.
Recently my friend and I toured government house in south Australia and we were commenting about living back then and decided we would have probably been the servants. It is interesting watching how that time was lived.

  3. Thanks for stopping by ladies! I was struck by your comment, Jenny, about if you would have lived back then, you probably would have been a servant. Depending on who you were, life could have been very difficult. And in all honesty, we also tend to sanitize "real" life in books.

Life was much harder than often portrayed. What about when people rarely bathed, or how much effort it took to stay warm in winter, for starters. . .Sounds romantic, doesn't it? But it was also a simpler time I think many people long for.

  4. I love learning about history through historical romances. Wild Prairie Heart sounds right down my alley. Anything to do with the Prairie and history and romance. Can't get much better unless it's chocolate coated.

  5. What do I like about historicals? Hmmm... That is a hard question because I've never really thought about it, but I'll try to answer it in some way.

    I like historicals that
---are in the pioneer era--the prairie, farming, trails, teaching, doctoring, etc.

    ---historical westerns-- cowboys
(everybody loves a cute cowboy ...including me :D), but especially one that is willing to show his tender side. So many times we think that cowboys (men) shouldn't/don't show emotion. But I like it when books have men that are strong Christians, but also have a tender side that comes though when things get tough. I like this type of guy in any book.

---I like historicals from the war eras like WW1, WW2, etc. I like learning about what it was like back then.

Hope this answers your question. :)

  6. Hi Lisa,

I enjoy reading books about different cultures and time periods. "Cowboys and Indians" in my childhood memories were fictitious characters. They led an exciting life so far removed from mine (in Rhodesia - now Zimbabwe)that I never realised they were for real.

I love seeing them come alive in books set in the prairies, and seeing a little of what they went through during those rough times.

I'd love your book, so please enter me in your drawing.

Since my grandfather, your great grandfather, was in San Francisco the day before the big one in 1906, I have been very interested in how he went by horseback from TN to CA - to work for a short time in the gold fields. Love won out & he returned to TN to marry his first love - YOUR great grandmother, Maude. He returned to CA, settled down, had a large family, all working hard. At one time he shot a cougar & cubs for the bounty money, which paid for new calico fabric for the girls dresses, as well as ribbons for the girls. If that doesn't sound interesting, then nothing could be! Just one story out of many of his life.

So, your books refresh the soul, remind me of the stories I heard as a child, make me yearn for the old days when monthly song-fests & picnics were always held on the 1st Sunday of the month for everyone who lived anywhere close around. Visiting the sick (not left for just the Pastor to do), baking cakes, love in full force. Your stories take me back to the world of a not so crazy & greedy society.

  8. Hi Lisa! What I like best about historicals is that they transport me back in time to a place and era I can now catch a glimpse of through the written word. Historical fiction breathes life into what we learned years ago in History class. It personifies a time period.

As a social worker. I love working with the elderly population. They are gems with such stories to tell. I feel as though I am seeing history anew through their eyes. I once had a client who's car was stolen by the infamous Bonnie and Clyde. Previously, that had merely been a story written in the pages of a history book. Now, it was real with a link I personally knew.

    Blessings dear friend! K

Well...I have just recently found a great interest in pretty much anything historical at this point. With all that is going on, I think looking back is the way to help us going forward. With all my kids it is hard to get in any recreational reading, but summer is coming and I will have some time while the kids play. I would love to win a copy and share it with my mom. I hope you are well, and pray for your family as as you spread God's love through Africa and wherever you go.
We love you guys! My mom also sends her love.

    Hi Lisa,
I love reading historical novels. Our heritage is important. I have a lot of small antiques, old books, post cards etc. I wish our world was less hectic today, and yet I would have a hard time living without the conveniences I have come to enjoy.
God bless you as you continue to write. Phyllis
